BARANGAY Ibo and the Babag National High School won separate titles in the side events in Lapu-Lapu City held in line with the staging of the Cobra IronMan Asia-Pacific Championships yesterday.

Barangay Ibo won the vintas contest for a whopping P20,000 cash prize.

Barangay San Vicente settled for second prize and the P15,000 purse while Barangay Tingo claimed P10,000 for third place honors.

More than 200 decorated boats or vintas were on standby at the Hilutungan Channel fronting the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, where the swim course of the triathlon event was held.

The vintas contest was part of Lapu-Lapu City’s plan to make the race route festive. Another side event was a cheerdance contest at the Discovery Bay in Barangay Punta Engaño, which was part of the run route of the triathlon.

Eight cheerdance groups performed while runners passed the area.

The judges chose Babag National High School as the winner. The school won the P10,000 cash prize.

Pajo National High School placed second and got P8,000 while Looc National High School settled for third and the 4,000 cash prize.
