A NATIVE of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur was shot to death by a former tanod in Parian, Cebu City at past midnight Wednesday.

The 24-year-old victim identified as Kim Branzuela was supposed to buy barbecue for a late supper when he was shot by Geruncio Morales who mistook him for another man he had an altercation with earlier.

The Cebu City Police Office-SWAT Team and Police Station 3 tried to apprehend Morales but the latter tried to escape and instead engaged in a shootout with them near his rented place.

Morales sustained four gunshot wounds. Recovered from his possession was a .38 caliber revolver, which is the gun he used in shooting Branzuela in the head.

According to responding officer PO3 Winston Ybañez, the victim was a seaman and is set to sail upon the call of his employer.
