TO BE THE DanceSport mecca of the world.

This is what the Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman Edward Hayco dreams as Cebu City hosts the staging of the World DanceSport Cebu Open 2016 tomorrow at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Lahug.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day and hopefully after this we will be known not only as the dancesport mecca of Southeast Asia but in the whole continent and in the world,” Hayco told Cebu Daily News.

Hayco said that 16 countries have already confirmed to strut their graceful dance steps in the competition. The number of participants has doubled since only eight joined last year.

“With this number, we are getting closer. But our dream will never be a reality without making this event successful,” Hayco said.

Among the dancers who will compete are from powerhouse nations Spain, Russia, England, Italy, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, and Australia.

Held simultaneously with the event is the 9th Dancesports sa Sugbu, which will serve as the culminating activity of the children under the grass roots program of the DanceSports Team Cebu City.
