THE Government Agencies’ Association of Negros Oriental (Gaano), in partnership with private organization Live Again, will spearhead a bloodletting and anti-dengue awareness campaign dubbed “Dugo Ko, Gasa Ko Fun Run” on October 16 at the Freedom Park in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
With the increased number of dengue cases in the province including six deaths as of August this year, the event will not only inspire people to donate blood but also create awareness on dengue prevention, said Gaano president Mercedes Enriquez, GSIS Dumaguete branch manager.
The fun run will also raise funds for the dengue victims through Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) chaplain Rev. Fr. Antonio Arnaiz.
Enriquez enjoined the national government member-agencies of Gaano to participate in the event and look for blood donors as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The 5-K fun run is open to all interested runners. Registration fee is P150.
All participants are required to register before October 16 at the respective member-offices of Gaano (GSIS, DepEd, CSC, SSS, Pag-Ibig, PIA, DPWH, DENR, DAR, Philhealth, LBP among others) and at Blue Monkey Resto Bar for the Live Again.
On the day of the event, at 5 a.m., bibs will be released to runners while a video presentation on dengue prevention is on-going. The 5-K run will start at 6 a.m.
For those who would not like to join the run, a zumba dance will be organized while waiting for the runners to arrive at the finish line. Zumba participants are also expected to pay the registration of P150 for donations.
The bloodletting will start at 8 a.m. right after the awarding ceremony for winners of the run.
The Live Again group headed by Adoni Goñi of Bais City, who was twice a dengue victim, collaborated with Gaano for “blood with a cause” campaign to help collect blood for the poor dengue victims through Fr. Arnaiz’s Foundation “Dugo Ko Kinabuhi Ko Program”.
The “Dugo Ko, Gasa Ko Fun Run” is also in cooperation with Dumaguete Division Federated-Parents-Teachers Association chaired by Risty Villahermosa of GSIS, Dumaguete Sports Office and Negros Oriental Sports Development Program.
