A KOREAN national landed in jail after he accidentally hit an elderly woman while driving along the national road of Barangay Casay, Dalaguete, Cebu on Sunday night.

Jong Kwang Yin, 47, married and a resident of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, immediately surrendered to the police station after fatally hitting Estrellita Corimao, 63, a widow.

Corimao was brought to the Julio Cardinal Rosales Hospital in Dalaguete town but was pronounced dead by attending physician.

PO1 Ariel Cordova of Dalaguete police station said the victim had just disembarked from a tricycle near their place when the incident occurred.

Cordova said Corimao had no coins to pay for the fare and had to rush to a store on the other side of the road when an approaching Kia Sorento (KFB 313) driven by Yin and heading for Cebu City hit her.

Yesterday morning, the relatives of the victim and Yin have reached an amicable settlement after Yin provided financial assistance to Corimao’s relatives.
