Traffic, security preps in place in cemeteries

The Cebu City government has laid out traffic and security preparations in Catholic cemeteries during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day next week.

“All systems go. All security preparations (are) ready na para sa All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day,” said Councilor David Tumulak.

Tumulak, chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Safety, said they will start securing all the cemeteries in the city on October 29 until November 2.

About 2,560 personnel from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Barangay Peace and Security Officers and police volunteers will be deployed in major cemeteries in Barangays Calamba, Pardo and Carreta, as well as private cemeteries in the city.

The traffic rerouting scheme will also be implemented from October 30 to November 2 in streets near the cemeteries.

The traffic rerouting will follow the same pattern as last year’s.

“Ang nakanindot ani kay template naman ni siya since 2014. Ato na ni sya gibuhat last year,” Tumulak said.

All vehicles going to Pardo Cemetery are not allowed to pass through Dela Victoria St. and Sabellano St.

For those going to Labangon cemetery, all vehicles coming from Katipunan St. shall pass A. Lopez St., left turn to Balaga St., then to their destination.

All vehicles going to Calamba Cemetery will still pass V. Rama Avenue. Only parking of vehicles are not allowed near the cemetery. Tartanillas and trisikads are also not allowed to pass V. Rama Avenue.

All vehicles, except trucks and trailers, going to Cebu Memorial Park from downtown Cebu City will follow the rightmost lane of Gov. Cuenco Avenue, then turn right to Yap Yok Access Road, left to J. Panis St. and then to their destination.

In Queen City Garden and Chinese Cemetery, passenger jeepneys coming from Consolacion, Lilo-an, Compostela, Danao, Carmen and Mepza Lapu-Lapu, will proceed to Urot Street, turn right to Cabahug Street, to A. Soriano Ave., left turn to Juan Luna Ave., turn right to S. Osmeña Avenue, right turn to Gen. Maxilom Ave., right turn to J. de Veyra St., left turn 6th St., then to North PUJ Terminal.

Passenger jeepneys coming from the south passing Benedicto St. will go straight to J. de Veyra St., left turn to S. Osmeña Ave. then to their destination at SM City or North Bus Terminal.

Passenger jeepneys coming from Urgello and Private passing Benedicto St. shall turn right to Gen. Maxilom Extension, right turn to S. Osmeña Avenue and back to their usual route.

Passenger jeepneys with 02B route passing S. Osmeña Avenue will left turn to T. Padilla Extension., right turn to Benedicto St., right turn to Gen. Maxilom Ave., right turn to S. Osmeña Ave., right turn to T. Padilla Extn., left turn to MJ Cuenco Ave., to their usual route.
