Several fire victims of Barangay Lorega, San Miguel, Capitol Site and Suba expressed relief when Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña confirmed his announcement on adding another P10,000 on top of of their P10,000 calamity-relief fund.
Osmeña dropped by at the ninth floor of Cebu City Hall’s legislative building where the city’s Department of Social Welfare and Service (DSWS) distributed financial assistance to the victims of recent fire incidents in Cebu City.
Jude Gerald Kayaco, a 52-year-old resident of Barangay Lorega, San Miguel whose two-storey concrete house was burned down into ashes last June 27, told Cebu Daily News that the additional P10,000 grant is a big help to his family.
“I work as a construction worker and my wife is a housewife. Materials needed to rebuild our house costs no less than P6,000 and honestly, P10,000 is really not enough,” he said.
