Retired Alapag to stay with Meralco

JIMMY Alapag has recently announced his second retirement and though he made it clear that it is already for good, the wily playmaker is not completely walking away from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Alapag, known as the Mighty Mouse, will be part of the Meralco Bolts coaching staff where he will help develop the team’s young guns.

“Hopefully, the experiences that I’ve been fortunate enough to go through both in the PBA and Gilas would hopefully serve them well in their own career and their own path,” Alapag said.

Alapag, who owns the most number of three-point shots made in the PBA, said he’ll be “more actively involved with Gilas” as it also serves as his way of giving back to the new generation of players.

“The game of basketball has been a huge blessing to my entire life. I was fortunate enough to play in the PBA for 13 years,” Alapag said.

Alapag said the Bolts “are excited to get back on the court” after their championship loss to the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the Governors’ Cup.

“At the end of the day, we gave ourselves an opportunity to win but sometimes it happens that way,” he added.
