FOR TEAM Joeric Boxing’s hard-hitting Rodel Wenceslao, his fight tomorrow night against Naris Singwangcha Promotion’s Adones Aguelo for the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) lightweight strap in Maasin City will dictate the future of his career.

With 11 victories, 12 losses along with four knockout wins and a single draw, Wenceslao has gone through ups and down. He said his next assignment against the heavily favored Aguelo will by far be the toughest in his career.

“He’s not an easy opponent. This is the most challenging fight of my career, I’ve fought a lot of tough fights but this one will be the toughest. It’s not just another regional title but a win will open a lot of big opportunities for me that will bring my career to the next level,” Wenceslao said.

Aguelo holds a record of 26 wins with 18 knockouts victories, 11 losses and two draws.

The fight will be the main event of Naris Singwangcha’s fight card at the Maasin City Sports Complex.

To show how important the fight for Wenceslao, his promoter and manager Joeric Calisang declined two offers that will have his ward fighting in China and India.

“Indian and Chinese promoters initially offered us big purse to fight there but we chose to let Wenceslao fight Aguelo because we believe that this fight is more important,” Calisang said.

“We believe that he can win this fight,” Calisang added.

Trainer Edsel Tuñacao admits Wenceslao is the underdog against Aguelo.

“He is the underdog against Aguelo. No doubt about that. We respect Aguelo’s skills that’s why we trained very hard for this fight. If Wenceslao wins this fight, he will improve his ranking in his division,” said Tuñacao.

Calisang emphasized that a win by Wenceslao is more than just the about the ranking and the regional title.

He said a win will silence the team’s critics.

“We’ve heard a lot of people saying that our boxing team has no direction, disorganized and I think his win will prove them wrong. So I’m really hoping for a win for Wenceslao so we can silence our critics,” Calisang said.
