VOLKSWAGEN Philippines brought to Cebu its Child Safety Initiative (CSI), launched on a Saturday morning, Oct. 15, at Robinsons Galleria in Cebu.
The formal ceremony to open the event was attended by Ren Dumaraos, Volkswagen Cebu’s branch manager; Marion Concordia Saguisag, Robinsons Land Corporation mall operations
manager; and Marte Perez, director of Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership.
The CSI campaign highlights the Junior Drive Course which features a miniature simulated roadway within a community.
It is complete with road signages, stoplights, and miniature cars for the children to use.
In the words of Ren Dumaraos:
“Cebu City and Province have been enjoying the benefits of economic resurgence. Among its direct effects is the increasing traffic, As well as the likelihood of road accidents, endangering more our most vulnerable members of society, our children.
“This is where Volkswagen’s CSI campaign comes in. The Child Safety Initiative which originated from Volkswagen’s headquarters in Germany, had earlier rolled out in many other countries.
“Its effectiveness is anchored on two pillars. The first is the prevention of accidents by teaching parents and kids about possible dangers on the roads.
“The second is the passive safety inside the Volkswagen vehicles by using child seats together with the factory standard safety systems like air bags, active collision systems, and the ISOFIX child seat fixations.”
On this occasion Volkswagen Cebu added a few attractions for the parents such as special offers and a display of the Touran multi-purpose vehicle, and the Tiguan compact SUV. Samples of child seats were also on display.

Dr. Warfe Engracia was in Japan Nov. 11 to 15 upon the invitation of the Rotary Club of Omiya, in association with the Rotary Club of Mactan.
Dr. Engracia traveled with the Rotary Club of Mactan president Reynante Mangayo and the secretary Maita Manglapus. With them were two doctors and a radiology technician from the Sacred Heart Hospital-Southwestern University, for further training in Ultrasound.
They are Dr. Mark Caballero and Dr. Odalie Aznar Madamba, and Radtech Raymond Velasquez. In the words of Dr. Warfe Engracia:
“Because of the associate with the Rotary Club of Omiya, it has granted an Ultrasound Diagnostic Machine for Preventive Medicine to the Sacred Heart Hospital, under my chairmanship of the hospital’s Radiology Department.
“I hope that activities like these will benefit our people specially with regards to health care and
inspire others to do the same.”
