Venom unleashed: Cobras complete four-peat
THE Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras completed a rare four-peat after they trounced the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars, 26-24, 25-10, 18-25, 25-13, to bag this year’s Cesafi women’s volleyball tournament crown Sunday afternoon at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.
The Lady Cobras swept the best-of-three series, 2-0, as they continued their dominance by winning their seventh title in eight years.
After barely winning the opening set, the Cobras flexed their muscles in the second as they raced to a 15-1 lead against the misfiring Lady Jaguars.
USJ-R, however, made the game a little bit interesting when it took the third set. That proved to be the Jaguars’ last roar as the Lady Cobras came out swinging in the fourth behind the heroics of eventual best attacker Janelle Cabahug, who scored five points in the final set.
Apart from Cabahug, other awardees were SWU’s Therese Rae Ramas (MVP) and (Best Setter), Jessa Semblante (Best Libero) and USJ-R’s Linlyn Torado (Best Server) and Daniella Alfeche (Best Blocker).
