The Cebu Provincial government has already allocated P4.1 Million for the purchase of solar panel for the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT).
CSBT head Joey Herrera said the solar panel would help lessen the terminal’s electricity costs by 10 percent per month.
The south bus terminal’s average monthly bill is P450,000.
Herrera said that by using the solar panel for at least six hours a day from sunrise to sundown, the Capitol could save electricity by as much as P45,000 a month.
Herrera said that aside from lessening the electrical expenses, the solar power is also not harmful to the environment.
“The last supplemental budget that was forwarded to the Provincial Board (PB) included the CSBT’s request of P4.1 million for the purchase of solar panel generation,” Herrera said.
Since it was already approved by the PB, Herrera said they are now preparing for a purchase request.
But Herrera said the procurement of solar panel still has to undergo bidding process since the amount involves millions of pesos.
Meanwhile, Provincial administrator Mark Tolentino announced that the CSBT will be the pilot testing facility for the solar panel.
Tolentino said the terminal operates 24/7 and this is a good place to see the difference with the solar panel.
“If it is proven to be beneficial, then probably we could expand the use of solar panel in other edifices that belong to the Capitol,” Tolentino said.
