Underdogs dominate 9th Annual Interclub Ladies Invt’l Tennis Tour
JOY delos Santos and Tessa Copas overcame a twice-to-beat disadvantage and stunned title-favorites Gaga Button and Alice Sadler, 8-4, in an all-Cebu finals of the 9th Annual Interclub Ladies Invitational Tennis Tour yesterday at the Citigreen Tennis Resort in Punta Princesa.
Button and Sadler came into the finals as the favorites, finishing the elimination round with a spotless 5-0 (win-loss) card.
But things went sour in the finals as the pair lost the first game, 8-6. Delos Santos and Copas carried the momentum into the second game and went on to complete the upset.
Cebu Ladies Lawn Tennis Club (CLLTC) President Elena “Lenlen” Cabrera said that their main goal in organizing this tournament is to encourage ladies to play the sport of tennis not only for competition but also for fitness and camaraderie.
Over 10 tennis pairs joined the two-day event, which drew participants from Korea, Manila, Cebu and Bohol.
