Centcom chief: Cebu remains insurgency free
CEBU remains insurgency free.
This was said by Major Gen. Raul del Rosario, chief of Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command (CentCom), in his speech during Centcom’s 15th founding anniversary yesterday at Camp Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Del Rosario said he had conducted a meeting with his men to strengthen the security measures in southern Cebu towns after the United States Embassy issued a travel warning advising the Americans not to travel to Dalaguete, Oslob and Santander towns after reports cropped up that terror groups were planning to conduct kidnappings in southern Cebu.
Last Tuesday morning, four navy vessels patrolled the coastal waters off Sumilon Island in Oslob and Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental. Aside from Cebu, other provinces like Bohol, Siquijor, Guimaras, Biliran, Aklan, Antique and southern Leyte are also insurgency free. Other activities were the 21-gun salute and wreath laying at the tomb of the 212 unknown soldiers who died during World War II.
AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Salvador Melchor B. Mison Jr. was the event’s guest speaker. “We will not give up. People come and go but Centcom remains. But what is important is we work together,” Mison said.
