Kenyan Mwiti, Andrin master Stripes Run ‘16

KENYAN Douglas Mwiti regained his winning form yesterday by dominating the men’s 10k race in the highly successful McDonald’s Stripes Run: Run for Reading at the Cebu IT Park.

Mwiti who only placed second or third in his previous races this year, crossed the finish line in 34 minutes and 26 seconds to finally end months of title drought. He relegated Joseph Solayman to second place (34:37) while Ian Refuela grabbed the third spot (35:06).

Meanwhile, Lovely Andrin topped the women’s 10k event after clocking 46:02, routing second placer Hope Kho who finished in 49:13 and Rhea Mae Garuchu who came in third in 51:19.

James Mibei (16:10) and Karen Manayon (23:08) topped the men’s and women’s 5k race, respectively while Adonis Singson (10:11) and Gry Vielsa (15:25) ruled the 3k division.

In the 3k 8-15 years old race, Batang Pinoy double gold medalist Moira Frances Erediano took the gold in 12:30 while Renz Corben pocketed the boys’ title in 11:31.

Jason Cristoffer (03:50) and Zutielle Galo (03:23) won the 1k race.

The race aims to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House of Charities’ (RMHC) flagship program called Ronald McDonald Read to Learn in partnership with the Department of Education. The program helps first and second graders improve their reading skills.

Around 2,000 runners mostly kids and families joined yesterday’s run.
