Militant groups hold noise barrage vs Marcos burial
MEMBERS of Cebu Citizens Assembly held a synchronized noise barrage in seven areas in Cebu yesterday noon to protest the burial of late president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The protesters gathered at Fuente Osmeña, SM City Cebu, the gates of University of the Philippines Cebu and University of Southern Philippines Foundation Lahug campus, Pagtambayayong Compound near the University of San Carlos South Campus and in the cities of Talisay and Lapu-Lapu.
In Fuente Osmeña, 20 members of Sanlakas Cebu led by Secretary General Teody Navea brought bottled waters filled with pebbles for a 15-minute noise barrage.
“We just want to put pressure on the nine Supreme Court Justices who favored the Marcos’ burial,” Navea told Cebu Daily News.
The nine who voted for Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City were Associate Justices Arturo Brion, Presbitero Velasco Jr., Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano del Castillo, Jose Perez, Teresita de Castro, Jose Mendoza and Estela Perlas-Bernabe.
The protest yesterday also coincided with the court hearing after former Bayan Muna party-list representative Neri Colmenares and former Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman filed a motion for reconsideration on Marcos’ burial.
“We also want to remind the people the insult done by our nine justices. They are changing the history,” he said.
On December 10, the Cebu Citizens Assembly, a coalition of militant groups, nongovernment organizations and civil society groups, will again hold an anti-Marcos protest through a march rally from Sto. Rosario Church to the Fuente Osmeña Circle. The activity is also in celebration of the International Human Rights Day.
