THE Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) has beefed up security arrangements for Miss Universe contestants who will be visiting Cebu on Tuesday next week.
Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, PRO-7 deputy director for operations, promised to give the “best” area security they can give to the candidates in close coordination with pageant organizers.
“We will only provide area security since the delegates already have their security package from Manila,” Lawas said.
The first batch of Miss Universe contestants from Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and USA started to arrive yesterday in Manila.
The beauty contestants will be touring the country’s destinations, with Cebu as one of their first stops, organizers said.
The contestants are also expected to try the country’s famous lechon (roasted pig) in Cebu which will host the pageant’s swimwear competition this coming January.
They will be accompanied by Miss Universe 2016 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
The beauty queens could also work off the extra pounds when they swim with the whale sharks of Oslob in the first of many out-of-town stops before the coronation night on Jan. 30, 2017, at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Police authorities again called on people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious-looking individuals and packages to avert threats to peace and order in Cebu.
“Kung naa silay makita nga mga katingalahan ug nagduda sila nga kining usa ka indibdwal naay gihimo nga something. Kinahanglan dayun i-call ang attention and then imbestigahon nila dayun. Sitahon nila. (If they can see or even doubt an individual is up to something, they should immediately call attention to it and report it),” said Supt. Ryan Devaras, chief of Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB)./ USJ-R INTERNS Delyne Marl A. Saragena and Danica D. Castro
