Mandaue City employees to receive pay hike next week

THE Mandaue City Council has approved yesterday three ordinances that seek to increase the salaries and honoraria of government workers in the city.

During its regular session last December 14, the City Council has approved City Ordinances 69-2016, 70-2016 and 71-2016 authored by Councilor Nenita Layese, chairman of the finance committee.

Under City Ordinance No. 69-2016, the city’s Clean and Green personnel and Barangay Health and Nutrition workers (BHNW) will enjoy an increase of P500 and P300, respectively, in their monthly honorarium for the period July 1 to November 30.

The approval came after the deliberation of the Local Finance Committee composed of the city administrator, city treasurer and the city budget officer last December 6.

“With the meager honorarium of the Clean and Green personnel and Barangay Health and Nutrition workers which would not commensurate with the daily works they are undertaking in their respective areas of assignment, there is a need to increase such honorarium for them to meet their basic needs,” part of the ordinance read.

In response to the Office of the President’s Executive Order No. 201, the City Council has also approved the City Ordinance No. 70-2016 to disburse a total of P3.4 million for the Productivity Enhancement Incentives (PEIs) of 695 regular employees of the Mandaue City Hall.

Each of them will receive P5,000 “for the purpose of improving their productivity,” Layese said.

Job order (JO) personnel and casual employees will also enjoy a wage hike this Christmas. For the period of July 1 to November 30, the daily wage of about 2,100 JOs and casual employees will increase by P36.

The government workers will receive their pay adjustments next week before Christmas Day, said Layese.
