A tricyle driver died while one of his passengers is in critical condition after the tricycle they were riding collided with a bus in Sitio Pagutlan Barangay Maslog, Danao City at 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Three others were also injured.

Based on initial investigation by traffic investigator PO1 Joseph Aledon, the Ceres bus driven by Numeriano Rabadon Jr., 49, collided with the tricycle driven by Jonathan Inoc, 39.

According to Aledon, Rabadon, a resident of Barangay Anapog in San Remegio, Cebu, said he was traveling north and was overtaking a bicycle when the tricycle driven by Inoc suddenly appeared from the opposite direction. Rabadon said he applied brakes but it was too late for him to avoid hitting the tricycle.

All the passengers and Inoc were thrown out of the tricycle due to the strong impact. Inoc, a resident of Barangay Magay, Compostela, sustained severe head injuries causing his death.

Tricycle passengers Abegail Cuervo, 23, and Rendelo Llagat, 53, were injured while another passenger, Rosa Mae Cardillo, is currently in critical condition. They are employees of Cebu Mitsumi, Inc. in Danao City.

Jovelito Martel, 35, who was driving a motorcycle and was behind the tricycle when the collision happened, also sustained injuries.

Rabadon, who is currently detained at the Danao City Police station, said he was only running at 60 kilometers per hour.

All victims were brought to Danao District Hospital. Rabadon and his company representative will be shouldering all the expenses for the treatment of the victims.
