Former Far Eastern University (FEU) standout Monbert Arong has found himself a new squad after he got picked up by the Cignal-San Beda in time for the opening of the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup, which kicks off on Jan. 19.
Initially drafted by Tanduay in the D-League Draft late last year, the Olango Island-native suddenly had no team after the Rhum Masters head coach Lawrence Chongson personally told him that he no longer had a spot on the squad for showing up late for their preparations after spending his vacation here in Cebu.
Fortunately for Arong, Cignal-San Beda was there to snatch him up.
Arong is a key piece of the 2015 FEU squad that captured the UAAP men’s basketball crown.
Arong said that so far, his time with Cignal has been very beneficial as he continues to learn their system from the San Beda core that is bannered by Javee Mocon, Davon Potts, and Robert Bolick.
“They teach me the system and the bond is strong in the team,” added Arong, who also won a Cesafi title while playing for the Southwestern University Cobras. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
