Cebuano archery enthusiasts are in for a treat after Cebu City was tapped to host the Philippine Archery National Open from February 24-26.

The Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) is now finalizing the possible venues of the country’s biggest archery event this year.

In a text message to Cebu Daily News, CCSC commissioner Allan Delantar said that they are just finalizing the venue of the tournament.

“The CCSC will be hosting the event and we are just finalizing the venue. Most likely it will be at Lot 27 near the Cebu Port Authority which is a former impounding area of CITOM,” Delantar revealed.

Philippine Archery Secretary General Rosendo Sombrio told CDN that the tournament will be used to assess the preparedness of the Aechery National Team members for the upcoming Asia Cup slated next month as well as the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this August.

Sombrio also encouraged amateur archers to take part in the drills since he is also in search of new talents for the Youth Olympic Games and future members of the national team.

The Philippine team has showed great promise this year as it dominated the Southeast Asian Open Archery Championships in Myanmar by bagging six golds, four silvers and two bronze medals last January.

The National Team is composed of Kareel Hongitan, Allen Raquipo, Syd Fraginald, Nicole Tagle, Mary Queen Ybanez, Paul Dela Cruz, Jennifer Chan, Rachelle Dela Cruz, Andrea Robles, Niron Concepcion, Joseph Bague, Flor Matan and Youth Olympics Games gold medalist Gabriel Moreno who is the nephew of Cebuana actresses Vina Morales and Shaina Magdayao.
