AFTER more than two decades, former members of the Santo Rosario Parish Youth Ministry in Cebu have reunited to spearhead the staging of the “Solidarity Run”, which will be held on February 11 at Sumilon Road in Cebu Business Park, Cebu City.
The event will serve as a fund-raising activity as proceeds will be used for the ongoing expansion and renovation of the Saint John Baptist Catholic Church in Tabuelan town, northern Cebu.
Some members of the youth ministry that organizes the event include Saint John Baptist Catholic Church of Tabuelan’s parish priest Fr. Kipling Agravante, Fr. Jun Gutierrez and Youth Ministry Keepsake Association’s (YMKA) officers Dootie Escalano, Cora Braulio and Anafe Ordeniza.
Race proceeds will also be used for YMKA’s livelihood programs for its less fortunate members.
“We were youth members during the 1980s of Santo Rosario’s Youth Ministry. We have not seen each other for 22 years, so we decided to have a reunion and conduct a fund-raising activity. We want to continue the things we used to do when we were active in the youth ministry which is helping the community,” said Fr. Agravante in the event’s press launching yesterday at Chowking along Osmeña Boulevard.
The church’s expansion project costs around P2-3 million pesos.
According to Fr. Agravante, they already spent a million for the project .
“We are calling on the Cebuano running community, schools and companies in Cebu to help us fulfill our projects and programs. This is for the community so we are encouraging everyone to join,” added Fr. Agravante.
The event will be handled by race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running. The event will have three distances: the 10-kilometer, 5k and 3k with registration fees of P450, P400 and P350, respectively.
Aside from cash prizes, medals will be given to the finishers in the 10k and 5k categories. Registration is ongoing at RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu.
