Joey Canoy won’t settle for less than a world title

Vows to bring home  the belt this Sat from South Africa

A world crown and nothing less.

Cebu-based boxer, Joey “Canoy J Singwangcha” Canoy vows to shock the boxing world on February 4 when he guns for the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) World Flyweight title against former world champion Hekkie “Hexecutioner” Budler in Gauteng, South Africa.

Canoy said he is excited about his first world title bout on his first ever fight abroad. The 23-year old ace warrior of the Flores Boxing Gym in Mandaue City told CDN that he is very ready to face Budler.

“Kaya ra kaayo nako siya, wala ko nakabati ug kahadlok niya. Basta ang ako lang focus lang jud ko sa fight,” said Canoy. (I know I can beat him. I don’t fear him. I’ll just focus on the fight).

He promised his supporters in Cebu and in his hometown in General Santos City, that he will do his best to bring home the title.

“Ready nako ani nga fight. Himuon nako tanan nakong makaya ug paningkamotan nako modaog ko ug knockout. Mao ni akong pangandoy sa akong kinabuhi nga mahimong world champion,” added Canoy. (I am very ready for this fight. I will go for a knockout victory because this is my lifelong dream, to be a world champion).

Canoy said that he is very grateful for the opportunity given to him to fight for a world crown and travel to another country. He is accompanied by his trainer Brix Flores and the latter’s wife Joselyn.

Budler and Canoy met for the first time during the preliminary weigh-in last Tuesday in Johannesburg, South Africa. According to Canoy, Budler approached him and in a friendly manner wished him luck for their fight.

Budler, a 28-year old former IBO and WBA world minimum weight world champion from Johannesburg, South Africa has a record of 30 wins, nine knockouts and two losses while Canoy has 12 wins, six knockouts, two losses and a draw.

Budler has already defeated four Filipinos in his career including former world champion Florante Condes, Juanito Rubillar, Michael Landero and Renan Trongco.
