Coach says Traya won’t lose in second fight in Poland

In his last fight in Poland, Cebuano boxer Elmo “Bisdak” Traya didn’t get the result he wanted.

This Sunday (Philippine time), Traya will once again fight in Poland in a non-title bout against Polish Michal Syrowatka.

This time, his coach Michael Domingo is confident his ward will deliver the goods.

“He’s very determined to win because I saw it on how he trained for this fight,” Domingo, a former world title challenger who is now a boxing coach, said. Traya and Domingo of the ALA Boxing Gym arrived in Poland last Tuesday.

Traya, who has a record of 11 wins (eight by knockout) and 2 losses, faltered in his first fight in Poland, losing to Polish boxer Przemyslaw Runowski in a bout for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental super lightweight title. He lost via unanimous decision in August 2016, halting his 10-win streak.

Despite the loss, Domingo said Traya’s confidence wasn’t affected.

“Even though he lost in his first fight here in Poland, he still has the confidence he needs for this fight,” Domingo said.

Syrowatka has a record of 16 wins (5KOs) and one loss and has won four of his last five fights in Poland, including a victory over Belgian Tarik Madni that gave him the WBC Baltic Silver super lightweight title. He is also the reigning Republic of Poland International and WBF international super lightweight champion.

Those credentials, however, doesn’t impress Domingo.

“I believe that Elmo will win in this fight because he’s got the power and his opponent’s style really fits with his style. So I am confident that he will win in his second fight here in Poland,” Domingo said.

According to Domingo, the 21-year-old Traya from Tabuelan town, southwest Cebu trained for three months for this fight.

In the final two weeks of training, Traya sparred with ALA Boxing Gym’s knockout artist Jeo “Santino” Santisima and unbeaten prospect Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo. He also exchanged punches with fellow ALA Boxing Gym boxers Jimmy Paypa and Albert Pagara (27-1-0, 18 KOs).
