Two persons died while another one was injured after a prime mover swerved and crashed into a house and waiting shed in Barangay Lanas, Naga City at past 6 a.m. yesterday.

Police identified the victims as 26-year-old driver Marjune Baldisco, a resident of Barangay Mainit, Naga City, and 72-year-old widow Isidra Vellacencio Cabaral, a resident of Barangay Lanas.

SPO1 Menandro Boligor said both Cabaral and another commuter, Felisa Cabonilas, were waiting along the road when the incident occurred.
Cabonilas managed to survive with minor injuries.

Boligor said Baldisco drove the prime mover that was registered with a Cebu City firm.

He said Baldisco drove the prime mover that was loaded with container vans past a curved portion of the road when he lost control.

The prime mover fell on its right side and crashed into a house owned by Judelyn Daroy, then rammed straight onto a waiting shed, tearing down its roof. Daroy wasn’t in the house at the time of the incident.

Several of the container vans fell by the wayside, one of them falling on top of Cabaral.

Cabonilas managed to run away just in time to escape the container vans.

Boligor said the force of the impact caused Baldisco to be thrown out through the prime mover’s windshield and crash through the steel railings on the side of the road.

Boligor said there were eyewitnesses who told them that the vehicle wasn’t moving fast when it fell on its right side.

“The road was mostly straight and smooth with very few curves,” he said in Cebuano.

Boligor said they suspect the driver was sleepy at the time and failed to get the prime mover under control in time to avoid the accident.

He said it took them two hours to pull out the victims since he had to ask for heavy equipment from Naga City Hall in order to pull out Cabaral from under the container van and Baldisco from the railings./Correspondent Rene F. Alima
