Summer Fun Run gives beginners a chance

By: Glendale G. Rosal March 29,2017 - 09:34 PM

COCO Running Team’s annual Summer Fun Run: A Family Run returns this Sunday starting at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park.
Since the running event is held to give beginners a chance to shine, Coco Running Team’s race director Joel Juarez said only short distances — 3 kilometers, 5k and 10k — will be offered.

“This run was really conceptualized to give beginners a way to have a good kick start in running. That’s why we only have short distances. We are also trying to preserve what fun run really is all about because most running events these days have longer distances which discourages beginners to join,” Juarez said in a press conference held at Melton’s Halo-Halo branch in Shopwise.

“If there’s no short distance foot races, then time will come people will be discouraged to start running. That’s why we make sure that there’s a consistent foot race that offers short distances,” added Juarez.

Joining Juarez in the press conference were Kinetic and Iconic Running’s Kenneth Casquejo and Pocari Sweat’s Cebu Coordinator Jessa Larosam.

Proceeds of the running event will be given to a chosen barangay in Cebu City. He said that they will be conducting a feeding program and will provide school supplies for the chosen barangay.

Also, Juarez in partnership with JPD coaching of John Philip Dueñas and Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, will provide free slots for the Sisters of Mary Girls Town and Boys Town grassroots runners.

Registration is until Friday. Registration fee is P300 for the 3k, P350 for the 5k and P400 for the 10k. To register, one can contact Juarez at 0933-306-6088.
