Products of Parmis’ clinics starting to maximize potential

UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers assistant coach Van Parmis didn’t think that a sports clinic for the less fortunate beneficiaries of the Sisters of Mary School Boystown in Minglanilla town, south Cebu held in line with the celebration of his birthday would become a full-blown sports developmental hub in Cebu.

And after seeing the boys of the school expose their full potential in selected sports in four months, Parmis couldn’t be any prouder.

“Watching them develop their skills from a clinic which started out as a birthday treat makes me feel very accomplished,” Parmis said. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this would become a major affair.”

Parmis said the products of his free clinic were able to maximize their potential which they can develop further. And one way to do that is to let them join competitions.

Parmis said he is planning to expose the boys to mainstream competition in Cebu. In fact, he already sent an entry from the school to compete in the recently concluded SBP 3-on-3 Regionals in Cebu. Next month, he will be sending another team to the Milo Best basketball tournament. He is also planning to send the boys to a swimming and football tournament as part of his plans to develop their skills.

“They have greatly improved and you can really see now that the consistent training that we did [in the clinics] boosted not just their skills but also their confidence,” Parmis said.

Helping Parmis in his free clinics were some of his friends in the local sports circle such as Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal, who staged the very first ever official running event inside the massive complex of SMS Boystown.

Parmis’ sports clinic is held every week with the next scheduled this Saturday.
