San Fernando forces three-way logjam in Governor’s Cup hoop

THE RACE to the top in the South Division Bracket 1 is shaping up to be a tight one after the San Fernando Spartans downed former unbeaten Minglanilla, 76-73, last Sunday night in the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-&-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament held at the San Fernando Sports Complex, San Fernando town, south Cebu.

San Fernando created a three-way logjam at the number one spot as the Spartans, the Talisay City Aqua Stars and Minglanilla now have identical 3-1 ( win-loss slates.

With Isidore Runjie Bamboa firing eight points, the Spartans were quick to build a 23-11 lead, but Minglanilla fought back in the second quarter to take the lead at the bend, 30-26.

San Fernando responded with its own run in the third as Shaun Keith Torquero scored 12 in a 29-21 rally that helped the Spartans take control of the game.

Torquero spearheaded San Fernando with 20 points, Alferez donated 15, Johnson Khen Saramosing added 12, while Bamboa chipped in 10.

Marc Glen Nebril and Tarrosa paced Minglanilla with 22 points apiece, while Sly Lucero donated 10.

Meanwhile, Talisay City didn’t break a sweat in tallying its third win in four games after netting a default win over Sibonga, which arrived in the venue 30 minutes after the scheduled tip-off.
