THE UPCOMING Cebu City Mayor’s Cup will be opening with a bang as a double-header raises the curtains on the commercial basketball tournament set on June 8 at the Cebu City Sports Institute.
Vescon Construction tangles with RCR Structures while RMA Logistics battles ASPA Scaffolding in the games that start at 5 p.m. The games on the second day will see Vescon take on ASPA at 5 p.m. followed by a tiff between RCR and RMA at 7 p.m.
All games are free to the public.
According to league organizer Joselito Manguerra, the tournament is just the first of three that he has planned this year. After this competition, another one will be held for the celebration of Osmeña Day in September.
Then, a Christmas league is also in the works for Cebu City’s fledgling basketball scene that once was golden but has now turned into brass with the lack of tournaments being played in the city.
The champion team of the four-day competition will bag P50,000 while the runner-up goes home with P30,000. The second runner-up will net P20,000.
The teams will play a single round-robin with the top two finishers at the end of the elimination round advancing to the winner-take-all final.
