MEMBERS of the Cebu-based Simply Share Foundation take their first ambitious step towards eradicating hunger by staging the Philippine Zero-Hunger Run on July 30 at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.
The Simply Share Foundation said 15 million Filipino children are malnourished and it has trained its focus in initaiting projects that would benefit this sector.
Since it was founded in 2015, the organization has held sustainable feeding programs among Cebu’s poorest barangays which also included deworming and weight monitoring for less fortunate kids.
This, according to Simply Share Foundation director Pamela Baricuatro, resulted in the improvement of the health status of the children in the subject barangays. They are also helping the Badjao community.
Baricuatro also revealed that they have passed a manifesto urging the national government to implement zero hunger initiatives such as establishing a food bank in key cities around the country to prevent food wastage.
“We want to create the first food bank in the Philippines and we want to start it here in Cebu,” bared Baricuatro during the launch of the Philippine Zero Hunger Run at the Laguna Garden Cafe in Ayala Center Cebu which was also attended by Simply Share Foundation officials and their generous benefactor and Hong Kong national, Atty. Jenny Chao who is also the head of the United Nations Social Impact Fund.
The race will feature a 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k distances with a registration fee of P350, P450 and P550. Registration areas will be announced soon.
