Bigger, richer St. Ignatius Run to start at SM Cebu
BIGGER cash prizes, bigger finishers’ medals and a new venue.
These are the major changes in the seventh edition of the annual Saint Ignatius Run, which will be held on July 23.
Batch 1992 of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) is the official host of this year’s running event, which now dangles a total of P50,000 in cash prizes, a big improvement compared to P35,000 offered last year.
The race will offer 21-kilometer, 12k, 6k, 3k and 1k distances. The 21k and 12k finishers will also take home bigger finishers’ medal compared to last year.
Also, the starting and finishing lines will now be at the SM City Cebu car park. Last year, it was at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
“To make the run more exciting, we decided to give out bigger cash prizes, bigger finishers’ medals and a new venue,” said Ericson Ong, the Batch 1992 president in a press conference yesterday at the Casino Español. “We want this running event to be a family affair for both SHS-AdC students and faculty.”
The run is held in line with the celebration of the feast of Saint Ignatius, the patron saint of SHS-AdC, on July 31. Saint Ignatius is the founder of the Jesuit community.
This event is also a fund-raiser for Batch 1992, according to fun-run committee chairman Ken Espedido. Benefiting from this will be SHS-AdC’s Blue Plate Project feeding program in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City and Batch 1992’s scholarship program.
“We already helped 20 deserving students to finish vocational courses, such as housekeeping, through our scholarship program. We are planning to add more courses from the proceeds of this event,” said Espedido.
The race is also part of Batch 92’s silver anniversary celebration. The batch will have its homecoming party this December.
Joel Baring of the Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE) is handling the technical side of the race.
Registration fee is pegged at P750 for the 21k, P650 for the 12k, P550 for the 6k, P450 for 3k and 1k.
Registration is ongoing at Loalde outlets in Cebu, Runnr at the Ayala Center Cebu and the SHS-AdC Alumni office in barangay Canduman in Mandaue City.
