Sereno seeks to allow Cebu City judges to hire guards

THERE are no security guards assigned at the Cebu City Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Qimonda Building, North Reclamation Area, at the moment since their contract with the previous security agency expired last July 31.

This prompted Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to look into the possibility of granting authority to the judges and the executive judge of Cebu City RTC to enter into a contract with a private security firm.

“We will look into the possibility of having the judges in the lower courts to procure (security personnel),” Sereno stated.

Sereno was in Cebu yesterday for the roadshow of the SC’s Judicial Reform Program held at the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu.

As to why the SC was not able to act on the expired contract, Sereno cited the “tedious procurement processes” of the judiciary.

“There are procurement rules we have to follow … and it’s really tedious,” she said. /Correspondent Morexette Marie B. Erram
