ELIMINATING FAKE NEWS
Cebu Daily News asked readers what mainstream media can do to counter fake news on social media, and here is what they said.
Ilijah Hermogenes commented “It is our obligation to not spread wrong information. We should verify the source of the information before liking, commenting and sharing them on social media.”
Bliss Bliss said, “It is easy for others to believe in any information simply because they don’t know the whole story. Everyone should be well-informed. Read newspapers, watch television news or listen to radio so we can get real information especially on matters involving national security.”
Jean Cotmaya said, “Let us not share articles and information just for the sake of sharing something. Using social media also come with the responsibility to only post something that is worth reading. When we spread fake news, we risk our own lives and the lives of other people.”
