Losing via default in last two games, CDU gets eliminated

THE CEBU Doctors’ University (CDU) kissed its playoff hopes goodbye without even breaking a sweat in the F2 Logistics Cesafi women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Stallions bowed out from semifinal contention after losing via default twice over the weekend at the University of San Carlos gym.

CDU didn’t have enough players in their scheduled games against University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

CDU, which is at the bottom of the standings with a 0-4 (win-loss) record, only paraded five regular players and a libero against USPF and USJ-R, which isn’t enough for a game to be played.

According to CDU’s coach Fr. Roland Manayon, some of his players were out due to personal and health reasons.

“One of my players, (Angela) Palmares, joined a screening for a beauty pageant and Gabby Carballo is suffering from asthma and she’s with her doctor,” Manayon said.

With enough players, CDU did compete well against its opponents.

The Lady Stallions kept in step with USC in their September 4 game but fell short, 18-25, 25-19, 15-25, 13-25. On Sept 10, CDU also tried but failed to win against Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma, 18-25, 16-25, 21-25.

Fr. Manayon said the team will be complete next week when it battles the University of Cebu on Sept. 30.
