THE 2000 Core Pacific hoisted the Division B title in the 22nd SHAABAA basketball tournament after they swept the 2001 Dynacast in the finals with a 51-43 victory in Game 2 last Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Canduman, Mandaue City.
After an evenly fought first half that saw both teams tied at 18-all, Core Pacific ratcheted up the intensity in the last 20 minutes of action and outgunned Dynacast in the fourth, 21-11, to snatch the win and claim the championship with a 2-0 series win.
Core Pacific got plenty of key numbers from its players as Dave Ting led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds while energetic forward Joevince Canizares pumped in 13 markers, a whopping 17 boards and three blocked shots.
Marvin Roma added nine, wide-bodied bruiser Joseph Lo had six points, 10 rebounds and three steals while Serg Al Go Bui chipped in seven boards and four steals to help Core Pacific spoil Dynacast’s nearly perfect season.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Batch 2001, which came into this series without a single loss across its name, riding high on the crest of a 12-game winning streak.
Wendell Ong was the lone player to reach double figures for Dynacast, which shot a mere 24 percent from the field in Game 2.
