114 Sirao families hit by landslides get P20K aid

ONE hundred fourteen families in Barangay Sirao received P20,000 financial assistance from the Cebu City government.

Jerry Guardo, deputy mayor on infrastructure matters, said the aid was given to the families last week as their homes in the mountains were totally damaged by recent landslide incidents.

Guardo said the distribution was done with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS).

“Their houses were totally damaged. Their crops were also affected,” he said.

He said the city is offering the families a relocation site in Barangay Guba.

Some were doubtful to move from Sirao as the area is far from where they make a living.

However, Guardo said he encouraged the families to avail of the opportunity.

“It is offered by the city for free. At least, they have their own lots,” he said.

He said, as of now, they are identifying possible alternative routes in Sirao.

He said should heavy rains happen, the residents including the motorist would have to use a passable and safe road.
