Huge win for San Fernando in Samsam Gullas Cup
SAN Fernando handed the erstwhile league leaders Minglanilla a grand smacking, winning 70-46, in the Samsam Gullas Cup 2017 on Thursday night at the Carcar Sports Complex.
Jhon Soreso was on fire all game long as he fired in 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. He also added 17 rebounds and a whopping eight steals to peg San Fernando’s win-loss record at 3-3.
He got plenty of help as well with Jhonson Saramosing and Shaun Toquero putting up 12 points and nine rebounds, and 11 markers and 10 boards, respectively.
San Fernando also wreaked havoc on defense, holding Minglanilla’s star guard Steve Nash Enriquez to just nine points on a miserable 2-of-16 clip.
Minglanilla dropped to 3-2 in the tournament being organized by Cebu First District Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, who celebrated his birthday yesterday.
In the other game, Carcar upended Naga, 94-83, for just their second win in five tries. Rey Alfeche was at the tip of Carcar’s attack with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Leonila Martorillas pitched in 15 while Eddie Villagracia added 13.
Naga fell to 3-3 in the competition that gathers players aged 20 and under from the localities in Cebu’s First District.
