As ‘super typhoon’ Yolanda looms over the country hours from now, local government officials declared a suspension of classes for private and public schools in Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Cebu province tomorrow and Friday.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama also asked employers to be lenient with their employees who are preparing for the arrival of typhoon Yolanda which is expected to affect Eastern and Central Visayas.

Pagasa-Mactan weather analyst Alfredo Quiblat said typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) is expected to enter the country tomorrow morning. Cebu’s northern towns and cities are expected to be hardest hit as Yolanda makes landfall in Samar at 24 kilometers per hour with maximum sustained winds of 225 kph.

Typhoon signal number 2 or 3 is expected to be hoisted over Cebu.

“It’s better to be prepared for any eventuality,” Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said.

Typhoon Yolanda is expected to move west north west affecting Bicol region and affect all of the Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, who declared a state of preparedness for the city, said there will be work at Cebu City Hall tomorrow but it will be suspended on Friday. He said it is up to the companies to decide whether or not to suspend work that day.
