RICKY POCA: COOL TEACHER

Netizens who knew Cebu Daily News columnist and San Carlos University Political Science professor Ricky Poca mourned his passing yesterday.

Dave Orbiso recalled his first encounter with the professor during their first day of class.
“Will never forget how you asked each one of us what Political Science means in our own words. I was startled with your loud voice and said ‘Political Science is everything, thank you!’ then you filled the room with your laughter.”

Giovanni Malitao Jr. said “Siya nihatag balik sakong phone nga gi embargo (He was the one who returned to me my phone that was confiscated in the school). Huhu. Rest in Peace sir.”

Jassey Orapa, in paying tribute to Poca, wrote: “You were one of the coolest teachers I had. Because of you, I was able to memorize the entire glossary of the book. Thank you for all the life lessons and jokes you’ve shared with us. Rest in peace Sir Poca.”

Poca was also one of the pioneering columnists when Cebu Daily News started in 1998. He succumbed to cardiac arrest early on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017.
