A vendor calls on customers to buy Ecuadorian rainbow roses at the Dangwa Flower market, Manila. Flowers on display for the Valentine’s Day celebration cost P600 to P1,200 per bouquet.

More than half of Filipinos said they would choose career over love life, a nationwide Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey taken in the last quarter of 2017 showed.

In poll results bared on Tuesday, the SWS said it asked respondents: “In case you have to choose between your love life and career, which of these two would you choose?”

The survey firm said 59 percent of Filipinos would choose career while 41 percent would choose their love life.

Preference for career over love life, the SWS said, was high among singles, regardless of sex.

“Among single men, 82 percent of those who are widowed, separated, divorced and 77 percent of those who never married would choose career over love life, higher compared to 53 percent among those with live-in partners and 50% among marrieds who would choose the same,” the SWS said in a media release.

“Among single women, 83 percent of those who never married and 80 percent of those who are widowed, separated, divorced would choose career over love life, compared to 65 percent among those with live-in partners, and 49 percent among marrieds,” it added.

The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults, aged 18 years old and above, nationwide. It has a margin of error of ±3% nationwide, ±4% for Luzon, and ±6 percent each for Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao, it said.
