THE Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) and the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente joined together to celebrate the National Autism Consciousness Week in SM City Cebu.
The week-long celebration started with a Mass, ribbon cutting and an Angel’s Walk focused on the theme “From Awareness to Acceptance, Accommodation and Appreciation.”
On the second day, a forum was held with ASP Chapter President Sandra Espina discussing about the new thrust and view on autism.
Lawyer Bernardino Amago IV, RCCF Secretary, tackled the rights and privileges of children with special needs provided under the Magna Carta for persons with disability (PWD) or Republic Act 7277.
He also discussed the new tax law called Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law (TRAIN), wherein PWDs enjoy 20 percent discount on medicines, and are excluded from the coverage of 12 percent VAT.
The ASP also held an art exhibit to showcase the achievements of children with autism.
Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, a staunch advocate on autism, has been assisting the ASP in spreading awareness about autism, including the ABCDE Caravan in the different barangays.
