Governor’s Cup basketball wraps up three-day coaching seminar
THE 47 participating cities and towns of the upcoming second season of the Governor’s Cup Cebu Province Inter Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament wrapped up a very productive three-day coaching seminar hosted by the San Beda Red Lions coaching staff yesterday at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez personally led the coaching seminar for the competing teams in the cash-rich basketball tournament.
The Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC), the organizing agency responsible for the Governor’s Cup, was the one that organized the three-day coaching seminar.
According to CPSC executive director Atty. Ramil Abing, they are ready for the opening ceremonies and opening matches on April 15 at the Cebu Coliseum.
“We are 90 percent prepared for the tournament and we had a successful coaching seminar and coordination meeting with the coaches and sports coordinators of the competing cities and towns. We are also finalizing the schedules and bracketing of the competing teams. We are close of completing everything,” said Abing.
Changes
Abing said the major change they implemented in the second season of the Governor’s Cup is that they are limiting the number of active varsity players for each team to just two.
Last year, there was no limit to the number.
This change was made to give all teams an equal playing field.
The champion team will receive P500,000 while the runners-up will get P300,000.
The top two teams in each bracket will receive cash prizes as well as the elite eight or the top four teams in both the south and north divisions.
