MOUNTING GARBAGE

Online photos showing 2,010 kilos of garbage collected during the clean-up drive on Sumilon Island in Oslob town in southern Cebu last Tuesday upset a lot of netizens.

Reynaldo Bandalan Briton Jr. wrote, “Environmental protection awareness and education lacking in our schools.”

A netizen named Kevin Mills said, “Filipinos have to learn to stop trashing the place. I was in the mountains near Danao in a car full of people just throwing their (garbage) out of the windows, and I was appalled, and when I went to Bantayan I couldn’t believe all the crap on the beach.”

Yang Yang Juico commented, “You cannot blame the tourist and foreigner they know better about the environment. It’s the Filipino who lacks education about the environment. And it’s getting worse nowadays.”‘
