Radaza to Lapu residents: Be vigilant, report illegal activities

Lapu-Lapu residents are encouraged to continue to be vigilant and to report any illegal activities in their areas.

Mayor Paz Radaza made the call on Tuesday after a raid of an illegal butane-refilling station in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, where P1 million worth of LPG tanks, refilling equipment and butane canisters were confiscated.

Radaza said that the refilling of butane canisters had been banned in the city because this had caused several fire incidents two years ago.

She also lauded the person who reported the location of the illegal butane refilling station in Mactan.

The information police received cited several LPG tanks, refilling equipment and butane canisters in a compound in Sitio Cassanta.

Police said they verified the information and raided the place at 4:30 p.m on Monday.

Two alleged caretakers were arrested — Bienvenido Sohitado Jr., 30, and Berniño Paquibot, 25, who are both residents of the area — and confiscated refilling equipment, which included LPG tanks, weighing scales, improvised refillers, and butane canisters.

Sohitado and Paquibot were detained at the Lapu-Lapu Police detention cell pending the filing of charges.

Police, however, were still trying to identify the owner of the illegal butane refilling station.
