Woman’s sons with drug suspect tied to trade
Police pointed to a property dispute and not illegal drugs as the likely motive in the murder of the wife of a slain drug suspect and her common-law partner at Barangay Tulay in Minglanilla town in southern Cebu at 11 p.m. last Tuesday.
PO3 Arnel Resente of the Minglanilla police precinct said their investigation showed that Haide Franza and Rolando Paglinawan visited her 17-year-old son prior to being murdered inside their home.
Resente said Franza, wife of drug suspect Jovie Franza, wasn’t involved in the illegal drug trade while her son faces drug charges for allegedly helping his father in dealing drugs.
Paglinawan worked as a painter and had a job in Bohol province prior to his death.
The couple were headed back to Bohol province when the murders occurred.
Both were rushed by neighbors to the Minglanilla district hospital but they died an hour later.
Haide sustained two gunshot wounds in the stomach while Paglinawan had gunshot wounds on his head and back.
Resente said the neighbors were unable to identify the perpetrators and only heard the gunfire that broke out of the couple’s house.
Franza’s husband Jovie died in a drug bust that resulted in the death of PO3 Eddie Espina, a police officer assigned in Minglanilla town.
Resente told reporters that Franza and her husband’s relatives were in a heated dispute over Jovie’s property in Minglanilla town.
