Despite the pressure on its side, Toyota Team Cebu gearing up for next leg of Vios Cup 5
After winning the team championship in the first leg of the Toyota Vios Cup Season 5 last weekend at the Clark International Speedway in Clark, Pampanga, Toyota Team Cebu (TTC) isn’t resting on its laurels.
Not after one leg, at least.
TTC Team Manager John Velasco said he finds it more than satisfying to have achieved the goal that the team had set months before the first leg, but the hunger for more titles is still there.
“The team has been together for a good three years and since then, they have made one goal clear: get the overall team championship by 2018.” he said in a press statement sent to Cebu Daily News. “We are on the right track and we will continue to try our best to be on top of things.”
Leg 2 of the series will be held in Filinvest, Alabang on July 27 to 29.
TTC, the only team from outside Luzon, was off to a blistering start in the new season as it racked up 92 points to be crowned the best team. Team Obengers Balintawak finished a close second while Toyota San Pablo settled for third.
Team Captain Lord Seno, one of Cebu’s motorsports legends, led TTC by topping race 2 in the Sporting Class. He also had a second-place finish in race 3.
Seno said the team did a good job in the first leg but needs to step it up in the next leg, especially since some of them will be heavy on success weight ballasts.
Winners of the first leg get weights as handicap for the next leg.
“We need to stay focused. Filinvest [is] unfamiliar territory for us, well actually, for everybody,” he said. “So it’s kinda challenging to win in the 2nd leg. I am just aiming to score valuable points.”
Seno remains optimistic though, especially with the young guns Sean Velasco and Jette Calderon.
“I’m sure Jette, Sean and the rest of the team will do good and rack up some points,” Seno said.
Clive Fermin also made waves in the Promotional Class of Leg 1, ruling race 2, while teammate Bobby Pangilinan landed second place in race 3.
Chipping in points for the team were Calderon and Velasco. Calderon finished race 1 of the Super Sporting Class in third place while Velasco finished fifth in race 2.
