Employers are encouraged to create a system to adjust work hours in the workplace to protect employees from being exposed for a long time to the heat of the sun.

The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (Dole-7) through its information officer, Luchel Taniza, gave the advice to ensure the safety of workers in the workplace and to avoid incidents of heatstroke at work.

“Especially in constructions (construction areas), where workers are exposed to the heat of the sun, that’s why we are urging employers to perhaps create a mechanism to adjust working hours of workers,” Taniza said.

She said that especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the temperature would be high because it is the dry season.

She said that employers could implement broken schedules or create night shift schedules where workers could be allowed to work in cooler temperatures.

Aside from that, employers are also encouraged to ensure that potable water would be available for workers at the workplace.

“Potable water is very important to be available in a workplace that can be used by workers,” she said.
