The Basilan franchise that is set to join the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) will be coming in with guns blazing as they will be employing the services of former pro, Jercules “Jojo” Tangkay.
The 41-year old lefty wingman confirmed this development right after he briefly flirted with playing for his hometown, the Casino Active-Cebu Ninos.
Tangkay however, tempered expectations especially since Basilan has yet to officially sign on to join the league founded by boxing superstar, Manny Pacquiao.
The details of Basilan’s joining is set to be hammered out this weekend when Basilan governor, Mujiv Hatamam, meets with Pacquiao himself.
“Sana naman matuloy yung pagpirma ng Basilan sa liga para makalaro din ako. Matagal-tagal na rin ako di nakalaro sa ganitong liga,” said the draft pick of Sta. Lucia in 2001 in the PBA. (I hope Basilan signs up with the league so I could also play. It’s been a while since I’ve played in a league like this.)
With his runningmate, Reed Juntilla, already signing on to play for Zamboanga, Tangkay said he’s not aware of what Basilan’s lineup looks like.
Nevertheless, Tangkay is amped to prove that he still has a lot left in his tank.
