LOREGA FIRE: A resident brings his valuables to safety during a fire in Barangay Lorega
in Cebu City.

ABOUT twenty five houses were razed to the ground while a man reportedly suffered burns in a mid-morning fire that hit a dense community in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Lorega San Miguel on Monday.

F/Chief Insp. Noel Ababon, Cebu City Fire Marshall said that his office received the alarm at around 10:15 a.m.

Although the blaze was declared under control 19 minutes later, 25 houses were still burned due to the failure of the fire trucks to penetrate the site of the blaze which only had narrow roads.

The burned houses were also made of light materials, Ababon said. Damaged was pegged at P350,000.

The fire allegedly started in the house of Zosimo Alvarado in what investigators believed was due to a defective electrical system.

An unidentified man reportedly suffered burns after he tried to save his belongings at the height of the blaze.

Meanwhile, Ababon said that he is hoping the city government will declare a reblocking of the area so that firefighters and other responders won’t have a hard time in case there’s a fire or other emergencies.
