Gullas Tennis Cup

Two Cebuanos, Aaron Kevin Tabura and Venz Alforque, clinched finals tickets in the 23rd JRG Gullas Tennis Cup yesterday.

Tabura lived up to his lofty billing as the top seed in the 10 Under Unisex division as he defeated Manila’s Gavin Kraut, 4-5, 4-2, 2-0 (ret.), at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Alforque, the boys’ 16-Under fourth seed, subdued Oroquieta City’s Nash Agustines, 10-3, at the Citigreen Tennis Resort.

Tabura will be contesting the Unisex title against Shara Louise Paliwag of Valencia, Negros Oriental, who earned her finals ticket with a 4-1, 4-1 routing of Chauncy Aguanta.

Alforque, on the other hand, will face 8th-seed Guillian Bandoquillo of Dumaguete for the title.

Alforque is actually on track in the boys’ 18 Under competition as he will be facing fellow Cebuano Vinz Lominoque in the semifinals also today.

Another Cebuano, Francis Gener Lambayan, will be vying for the other finals slot against Ormoc’s Cedrix Bravo.

The Cebuanos, however, got shutout in the 12 and 14 Under Boys.

In the distaff side, Cebuanos in contention were CJ Thalia Suson, Tiffany Claire Nocos, Nicole dela Rita, Elizabeth Abarquez and Zethley Mae Alferez.

Suson of Compostela is in the semifinals of the 12 and 14 Under Girls, while Nocos of Lapu-Lapu also has a chance to bring home two titles, 14 and 16 Under Girls. Dela Rita, Abarquez and Alferez are vying for the 18 Girls’ title.
